The Warmth of Projection design team has developed an electronic thermometer that goes beyond the conventional methods of temperature measurement. By observing the natural inclination of individuals to glance at the display screen, the designers realized that shifting the focus of the person being tested could help alleviate anxiety. With this insight, they have ingeniously incorporated a projection feature into their design.
Using the principle of convex lens imaging, the Warmth of Projection thermometer projects the temperature number displayed by an LED onto the arm of the person being tested. This simple yet effective mechanism not only provides the individual with the current temperature reading but also diverts their attention away from the thermometer itself. By projecting the temperature onto the arm, the design creates a subtle and comforting interaction, reducing excessive attention and anxiety.
The Warmth of Projection thermometer boasts a cordial and gentle product design, ensuring a sense of ease and comfort throughout the temperature measurement process. The team's meticulous attention to detail and understanding of human psychology have resulted in a product that not only serves its primary function but also provides a moment of solace in these challenging times.
When it comes to the realization of the design, the team has employed advanced technology and manufacturing processes. By utilizing plastic injection molding, they have achieved cost-effective production of the thermometer's shells. Additionally, common parts have been used for assembly, further streamlining the manufacturing process.
The Warmth of Projection thermometer measures 50mm in width, 35mm in depth, and stands at a height of 122mm. With a weight of 62.4g, it is lightweight and portable, making it suitable for use in various settings.
Through their innovative design, Yan Yue and Jiahao Yu have created a product that not only addresses the practical need for temperature measurement but also provides a sense of warmth and reassurance. By shifting the focus and reducing anxiety, the Warmth of Projection thermometer offers a unique and comforting experience during these challenging times.
The Warmth of Projection project began in Zhengzhou in July 2020 and was completed in Shanghai in September 2020. The designers conducted extensive research on people's changing lifestyles and the psychological impact of the pandemic. Their goal was to improve the temperature measurement process and provide a sense of peace and comfort through design.
This exceptional design has garnered recognition in the industry, receiving the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Medical Devices and Medical Equipment category in 2021. The Warmth of Projection thermometer has been commended for its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach, meeting professional and industrial requirements. It integrates industry best practices and exhibits competent technical characteristics, ultimately contributing to a better world.
The Warmth of Projection design is a testament to the power of design in enhancing our daily lives. By combining art, architecture, innovation, and technology, Yan Yue and Jiahao Yu have created a product that not only serves a functional purpose but also provides a moment of warmth and comfort in the face of uncertainty.
